Survey

This survey doesn't give a great set of results due to only nine people responding, but from the nine responses I get the sense that people would rather give to charity than to homeless people but the general consensus is that it has little affect, this only re enforces my thought that there needs to be a greater education about homelessness and the work charities do to support homeless people.

Being bold in tough times

I have read through he majority of this document and picked out the aspects that I think will help me win the research and the point of view I would like to portray within the publication I would like to produce.

Sqatting: a homeless issue

The three documents PDF documents I have here are the bases for almost all of my information for the publication, they include facts and stats from various different charity and governmental bodies.

Homlessness: a silent killer

I have been through with the old high lighter on this fairly extensive document, some of the facts and figures within this make for hard reading but it is that very fact what I want to come across to a new, ignorant and perhaps slightly naive audience I would like my publication to reach.

The Briefs

These are the brief I had selected to look through pick apart and develop into my own brief, I have highlighted the important aspects of each one adding the 5 reasons why I chose each one. I really was enthused by a a couple of them for either what they stand for of the requirements in terms of product.

Editorial Design

There is a fair amount of different publications in this issuu document, but I think they are all really great examples of fresh modern attractive design. I would love to recreate some thing similar for my own publication. The nature of the my target audience dictates that it should be attractive and eye catching, while the content needs to be thought provoking and informative.

Crisis Services

Some of the services the homeless charity crisis provide, and a break down who has used them in the past year, my inicial reaction is the numbers are relitivly high which is of course a good thing, but when contrasted against the number of homeless people in london alone it is only about half. This is either lack of awareness or lack of help.

The Crisis Commision

Crisis

Who we are?

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. We are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change.

 What does Crisis do?

Our innovative education, employment, housing and well-being services address individual needs and help people to transform their lives. We measure our success and can demonstrate tangible results and value for money.
We are determined campaigners, working to prevent people from becoming homeless and advocating solutions informed by research and our direct experience.
We have ambitious plans for the future and are committed to help more people in more places across the UK. We know we won't end homelessness overnight or on our own. But we take a lead, collaborate with others and, together, make change happen.

Our purpose is to end homelessness by:
  • Transforming the lives of homeless people
  • Preventing people becoming homeless

The Big Issue Foundation

Our mission

The Big Issue Foundation is a national charity which connects vendors with the vital support and solutions that enable them to rebuild their lives and journey away from homelessness.

The Need

Nearly 100 people a week turn to the Big Issue for an opportunity to help themselves at a time of utter personal crisis.
The Big Issue Foundation strives to support 2,500 vendors across the country. We urgently need to offer more support and hope for the future.

The Big Issue Foundation connects vendors with the vital support and solutions that enable them to rebuild their lives and journey away from homelessness.  We work exclusively with Big Issue vendors. Vendors are people who are homeless, vulnerably housed or at risk of homelessness because of significant issues such as unemployment or a financial crisis.
In the next 3 years The Big Issue Foundation wants to ensure that every vendor has:
  • somewhere meaningful to call home
  • access to a doctor and equality of access to health care opportunities
  • the essential support that is needed to overcome addictions
  • direct help with their sales skills to maximize their independent earnings
  • the crucial personal identification that opens so many doors
  • access to additional financial support and secure saving opportunities
  • the opportunity to re-connect with family members and loved ones.
To Deliver Our Mission We Will Remain:
‘Vendor-centric’ – our work is led by the hopes and aspirations of Big Issue vendors
‘Inclusive’ – social and financial inclusion is at the heart of our philosophy
‘Non-judgmental’ – we work with anyone who is prepared to engage with self-help.

St Georges Cript

Ethos

St George’s Crypt is a Christian Charity based underneath the thriving church of St George’s, Leeds. It has been providing care and support for homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged people since 1930. Don Robins first opened the doors of the Crypt to alleviate the considerable distress of many who found themselves with next to nothing as a result of the Great Depression.

The Crypt enjoys excellent relations with all Christian denominations and welcomes people of every faith. Today, the Crypt continues to provide unconditional support to all those who come to our door.

There is a Chapel at the Crypt where prayers are said every day of the year.

Information about becoming a prayer partner

Prayer is a central part of the witness and ministry of the Crypt. It underpins all the work we undertake and is a crucial way in which our staff, service users and trustees can be supported. We value each and every one of our prayer partners – many of whom have been praying for us and for our work over many years.

A quarterly Prayer Diary is produced and the current diary is available here. If you would like to join our Prayer Partners, please email us on admin@stgeorgescrypt.org.uk , or write to us at the following address:
